CAF and CHAN 2016 at Esperance

As some of you might know, this year CHAN was taking place in Rwanda. Esperance together with Streetfootballworld tried to grab this opportunity to show the power of football. On Saturday, 6th of February, CHAN together with CAF visited the facilities of Esperance. Around 300 people attended the Kigali Football Festival. Esperance, which is working together with the network of Streetfootballworld since 2002 hosted the Festival at Kimisagara Football for Hope center. At the beginning of our well structured program, about 50 young participants had to do a workshop about the power and strength of football.
Mr Hicham El Amrani, the General Secretary of CAF explained to the participants of the workshop how african football players, coaches and managers should develop talents in Africa and not always planning to do it in Europe. Mr Paul Kelly who represented Streetfootballworld informed people present at the workshop about the creation of the network, starting in Columbia and based now in Berlin but working allover the world. 40 organizations members of Streetfootballworld network are based in Africa and Esperance is one of them. Mr Paul Kelly said that football should always promote peace instead of creating troubles. Mr Murangwa, former capitain of Amavubi, the Rwandan National football team and founder of the organization Football for Hope Peace and Unity shared with the young football players his experience in football. He said „ Football saved my life during the Genocide of 1994 against tutsis“. In his organization they teach the beneficiairies what he calls Sportsmanship based on good education through football. And Victor Emmanuel Sewabana, the Legal Reresentative of Esperance explained how Esperance was created in 1996, two years after the Genocide against Tutsis, with the objective of giving youth hope to a better future. He said “we started by classic football, then adapted street football to football amahoro (football for peace) which led us to being member of Streetfootballworld since 2002“.
The guests of honor arrived at Kimisagara Football for Hope Center: Minister of Sports and Culture MrsUwacu Julienne, Chan Director and second CAF Vice President Mr Kabele Camara, three Amavubi players Emery Bayisenge, Ernest Sugira and Eric Ndayishimiye. After inspiring speeches of our guests of honor, ESPERANCE received many gifts from CAF, tickets to watch the CHAN final game at the stadium included. After some time of talking and enjoying together, an orchestra organized by Esperance was amusing and entertaining all participants. (Photos by Shabana Masengesho, Flavier Ntezimana and Patience)
